Capsule Endoscopy

Capsule endoscopy is a minimally-invasive procedure in which a capsule wireless camera to take pictures of your digestive tract. A vitamin-size capsule travels through your digestive tract and takes hundreds of pictures.  These pictures are transmitted to a recorder you wear on a belt which is put on the patient’s waist. It enables visualisation of small intestine (not seen properly by UGIE)

A capsule endoscopy procedure requires the patient to using a laxative before the procedure. The patient has to be fasting for the day before and sometimes on the day of the procedure.

Diagnostic indications: –

1. Chronic bleeding (small bowel), iron deficiency anemia

2. Suspected malignancy

3. Inflammatory bowel disease
