Double balloon enteroscopy, “deep” enteroscopy or “device-assisted” enteroscopy is a minimally invasive medical procedure that allows for visualisation of the small intestine (or small bowel).

In this procedure, an advanced endoscope (instrument made up of two tubes, one inside the other) is passed into the small intestine. The double balloon system endoscopic system via the process of inflation and deflation allows for smooth advancement and grip which enables detailed visualisation of the entire length of the small bowel. It can be done through the mouth or through the anus. It is usually done under sedation under anesthesiologist’s supervision and take about 90-120 mins.
