NBI (Narrow Band Imaging)
Narrow band imaging (NBI) endoscopy is a modern optical image enhancing technology which enables real-time high-detailed vascular and mucosal patterns. It also provides greater ability to predict histology during real-time endoscopy. As a result, greater accuracy is achieved in assessment of lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as the early detection of neoplasia and other GI pathologies.
Its best application is detecting pre-malignant lesions (i.e., before cancer) and early-stage cancer. This helps greatly in both prevention of transformation to cancer and early management of cancer.
Many recent studies have yielded promising results in the diagnosis of premalignant and malignant lesions of gastrointestinal tract.
Diagnostic indications:
1. Esophagitis
2. Barrett’s esophagus
3. Esophageal cancer
4. Gastritis
5. Gastric cancer
6. Polyp evaluation
7. Colon cancer
